Scarlett Johansson reaches agreement for child custody

Many people in Tennessee are familiar with the work of actress Scarlett Johansson, but they may not have been aware that she was going through a divorce. Like any other parent going through a divorce, she also went through a child custody dispute. Initially the couple had an informal agreement for an equal parenting time schedule, but that proved too difficult due to her travel schedule for work and her husband living in France. However, it is unknown what the couple finally agreed to for a schedule with the child.

This situation, while unique given Scarlett Johansson’s line of work, also highlights the complications that can arise in a child custody dispute. Ultimately the parents or a judge will have to determine when the child will be with each parent. What is in the best interests of the children depends on the children’s needs and the specific circumstances of the parents. Some parents work long or odd hours and the parents may need to be creative in the schedule that works bests the children.

This does not mean that one parent is less of a parent, but the decisions are made based on what is in the best interests of the children, which may not always be what a particular parent wants. This is especially true when the parents do not live close to each other and a child cannot easily and quickly be exchanged between parents.

Parents’ situations in Tennessee are all unique and child custody determinations in a divorce will be determined based on those unique circumstances. When parents live far away from each other or work odd hours, traditional visitation schedules may not work for the parents. There are a number of other factors that are analyzed to determine these schedules beyond the distance between the parents as well. Understanding these factors is important and experienced attorney may be a useful resource.
